In the midst of doom and gloom, mobile broadband has proven to be Australia's beacon of light, with the market doubling in the past year to more than $1 billion.

The latest forecasts on the growth of mobile broadband predict revenues of $137 billion globally by 2014 but, despite that, operators will have to content themselves with the fact that user growth will be far faster than actual revenue growth.

Vodafone Australia is in the final stages of testing and tuning its high speed 3G network in major regional centres, with the network to go live in the first week of May 2009. 
 

Vodafone is moving faster than expected to roll out its 3G network across New Zealand with the company now saying it will expand coverage to 97 percent of the country a year ahead of schedule.

NetComm, an Australian developer and supplier of high performance broadband communications devices, says it is preparing to launch what it claims is “the world’s first 21Mbps embedded 3G router with all the bells and whistles” with the looming launch of 21Mbps networks worldwide.
