My clients setup consists of numerous database servers (SQL Server 2005), mail servers, load balanced web servers and a NAS, all running on Dell hardware in a fully managed premier data centre in the US. All machines run on Windows Server 2003 using IIS on the web servers. They have redundancy at every layer, including load balancing for the web servers and log shipping for the database servers. Your responsibilities;
Improve system monitoring and ensure the 24/7 availability of our web applications.
- Maintaining and improving our current backup routines.
- Planning and implementing hardware and software upgrades to ensure continued scalability.
- Ensuring our local network, including our build and deploy servers continue to run smoothly.
- Using your sys admin genius to improve things in ways they’ve never even thought of.
Plenty of experience being responsible for always on web applications on the Windows platform is a definite plus. On top of this, the following experience is also looked upon favorably.
- Experience with SMTP and POP (we are an Email Service Provider after all).
- Familiar with SQL Server 2005.
