Construction needs cloud flexibility

Australia’s embattled construction sector could benefit from cloud based information systems that can be switched on and off in lockstep with individual projects – with the exception of those organisations based in remote areas like the Kimberleys.

Aeropower Chooses Mavim for OH&S Compliance and Quality Assurance

Sydney, 14 February, 2007 – Aeropower, an electrical power industry contractor specialising in the use of helicopters to perform airborne patrols, inspections, construction, and maintenance of live power lines, has selected Mavim to manage quality assurance and occupational health and safety requirements set down by four governing compliance bodies.

Aeropower was tasked with developing an integrated process management solution to promote greater employee awareness of legal responsibilities relating to Civil Aviation Authority of Australia (CASA) safety regulations, and the Electricity Supply Association of Australia (ESAA) guidelines for working with live power lines, as well as Standards Australia safety equipment maintenance and related Workcover OH&S procedures. It also required a systematic approach to delivery of compliance information, which could be accessed Australia-wide quickly and easily from rural and remote areas, via the Internet.

Mavim’s software was selected for its ease of use, the ability to integrate multiple quality assurance guidelines and generate positive return on investment (ROI) in a short timeframe.

Deployed at the crucial junction between the IT department and organisational management, Mavim software enables organisations to effectively capture, design, maintain, and communicate organisational processes, rules, and changes.

“Prior to Mavim, updating quality assurance and compliance requirements was done manually with the applicable procedural manuals needing to be shipped to approximately 30 people,” said Neil Bartlett, Quality Manager at Aeropower. “Now, with only a password and Internet connection, remote field workers are able to access information as needed to see who is responsible for what and when.”

Mavim’s password functionality recognises individual users and informs them of any documentation changes since they last logged on. It also allows administrators to grant temporary access to third-party users for auditing purposes.

“In a calendar year we can have up to three or four different audits, whether it be related to CASA compliance, risk management procedures for handling high-voltage electrical cables, or audit requests from a customer,” added Bartlett. “If required, Mavim allows us to provide instant access and visibility across our entire system or facilitate access to specifically requested information only.”

Florian Hoornaar, Managing Director at Mavim said, “Regardless of file format or PC platform, Mavim allows organisatons to integrate their IT operations and process document narratives into a single solution, achieving greater timeliness in delivery of information and an overall improvement in the quality of related procedures. Having the right tools at your disposal helps to not only minimise daily operational risks, but in the event of an audit will demonstrate greater preparedness and adherence to legal requirements.”

Most recently, Aeropower has successful rolled-out additional Web functionality through Mavim, with administrators able to notify field workers of any changes to procedures via email. Users are able to then access the changes online and verify they have read and understood the information by ticking a box to notify administrators of acceptance of the new procedures.
