Update Now and Vista may cause high impact at some sites

PCProfile has released two key articles that business based home office users as well as directors, managers and C level executives need to read and understand in order to minimize the risks faced with both Microsoft Vista and "Update Now" features being deployed by Microsoft.

There is the potential for an unexpected level of high impact in some areas unless managment directs users to bring their licensing requiirements into line.

"Update Now" at http://www.pcprofile.com/Update_Now_Managing_Clouds_and_Moving_Goalposts.pdf

outlines the potential drawbacks that can occur if you don’t actively manage the deployment of “Update Now” features within software applications.  Management really needs to grasp the implications here very quickly!

“Here’s the punch line for managers – you need to understand the effects this may have on the ability of your business to function as individual users selectively or randomly choose to accept the “update now” conditions and lock you into an update cycle, only to then find that the software becomes degraded in functionality whilst you get to sort out licensing issues that you may or may not have been aware of in your organization.”

PCProfile at http://www.pcprofile.com  both understands and firmly believes that you have better things to do than worry about than this, but be warned, it’s coming to a desktop near you, and it could be disruptive!”

In addition, with the release of Microsoft Vista you will be required to "Register within 30 days or the lights might go out on your career if you don't have a valid version ............ "

For a career limiting move make sure that you don't let staff install Vista in your office hacked and cracked. If you do then see how long you survive in the industry!" http://www.pcprofile.com/Hasta_La_Vista.pdf

Software Piracy is far more widespread than the industry "statistics" will tell you.  In many cases most don't believe the numbers that regularly pop up in "industry surveys".

"We really don’t care how much the software industry loses due to piracy" says Rob Harmer, General Manager PCProfile, in Adelaide Sth Australia "however we do care how much organizations are wasting with sloppy software management practices, incomplete audits and poor software record keeping that does not minimize the risks they face".

You can ignore the issues or you can be proactive and do some simple things to ease your pain and reduce your risk. Not sure whether you are affected, then read the key feature articles at http://www.pcprofile.com/Update_Now_Managing_Clouds_and_Moving_Goalposts.pdf  and

PC Profile offers comprehensive range of advice and services on software auditing, pc auditing and network inventory to enable you to minimize your risk of unnecessarily paying legal fees and fines to the BSA, BSAA, CAAST, FAST, AAA, SAFACT, SIIA, MPAA and RIAA for software, music and movie piracy.
