Geomatic Technologies wins GITA Excellence Award 2006

Melbourne, Australia – The Geospatial Information and Technology Association (GITA) Excellence Award was presented to the Directions Plus project at the GITA Conference dinner on Tuesday 22nd August at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The Excellence Award Program is internationally recognised and aims to award government or private sector organisations, which use geospatial technology to achieve outstanding results.

The Directions Plus project was submitted jointly by Geomatic Technologies (GT): the Office of the Chief Information Officer: and Spatial Information Infrastructure – Department of Sustainability and Environment, Victorian Government.
 
The Directions Plus project remains a world first geospatial service. It was designed to ensure that visitors to the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games could find their way to events, restaurants and entertainment using the Public Transport Network. Volunteers provided Games visitors with a tear away printed map with directions, or sent the information directly to a mobile phone. The award was accepted by Jane Treadwell and Ross Caldow.
