Primus Telecom Dials in with Cognos 8 Business Intelligence

Cognos (Nasdaq: COGN; TSX: CSN), the world leader in business intelligence and performance management solutions, today announced that Primus Telecom, Australia’s fourth largest fixed-line carrier, is upgrading its business intelligence and performance management systems to Cognos 8 Business Intelligence (BI) enterprise-wide.
Primus Telecom is a Melbourne-based company delivering voice, data, Internet and web hosting products through its own backbone network across 66 cities in Australia. Cognos 8 BI will help Primus Telecom tailor its marketing campaigns and operations to meet the needs of the fast evolving and competitive telecommunications market.

Cognos 8 BI delivers the most comprehensive set of BI capabilities available on a single, web-based services-orientated architecture (SOA). It provides decision makers at all enterprise levels with a consistent, accurate view of information to better manage performance.

Cognos 8 BI will provide all Primus Telecom’s staff with immediate access to live data from heterogenous data sources such as databases, OLAP cubes and multiple other data sources. Its centralised, web-based architecture will also enable the organisation to evaluate the performance of new products in real-time. The upgrade will support Primus Telecom’s internal change management, making the enterprise more efficient and customer-centric.

Mr Janusz Zieba, Software Development Manager, Primus Telecom said, “Cognos 8 BI provides us with a single view on customer feedback, sales numbers, billing information and operational reports using our own templates, and the best thing is that every user, not only the administrator, can use modelling tools and create customised dashboards.”

The centralised, Internet-based architecture of Cognos 8 BI will reduce downtime during the implementation across Primus’ headquarters in Melbourne and offices in Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth. The upgrade project is expected to be complete in September 2007.
