OzHub, the Macquarie Telecom-led cloud computing alliance, has come down firmly on the side of Optus over the copyright controversy surrounding Optus TV Now, warning that any moves to change the law "risk branding Australia a global luddite state."
The Windows-based WinRoute Firewall 6.7 will be offered with the Kerio Web Filter, which classifies pages into 53 categories - including 'malware'.
"Many of the viruses, spyware, and Trojan horses today have intentionally short life spans and their authors like to spread them through distribution websites rather than email. The short lifespan of viruses poses a true time challenge to anti-virus and anti-spyware vendors," said Scott Schreiman, CEO of Kerio Technologies.
"We are introducing a malware category in the new Kerio Web Filter to help companies prevent employees from accidently visiting such websites and avoid unintended drive-by downloads of malware," he added.
Web Filter also allows organisations to block access to web sites considered unsuitable for use at work. (Opinions are mixed about the desirability of blocking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Some managers regard them as nothing more than time-wasting activities; others see them as quick ways for staff to keep in touch with the outside world, and certainly less intrusive than personal phone calls.)
WinRoute Firewall and Web Filter have a web-based reporting and management interface that the company says is compatible with Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari. (That's how it should be, of course, but we still hear complaints about web interfaces that don't work properly with certain browsers.)
Other features of WinRoute Firewall include user management, gateway antivirus, VPN (with client software available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux), bandwidth control, Internet link load balancer and gateway firewall.
WinRoute Firewall starts at $US329 for 10 users, or $US395 with McAfee Anti-Virus. Web Filter starts at $US150.
