Peter Prowse, general manager of data centre solutions for Dimension Data, said that data centres supporting the public cloud offerings would be rolled out in the US, Europe, South Africa, Asia and Australia. This would allow users to effectively 'geofence' their data if required to comply with regulation or preferences.

Although at this stage only one cloud data centre has been opened in Australia Dimension Data runs seven data centres in Australia and New Zealand, and said that in the event of a disaster in the one cloud focussed data centre, it would be possible to provide business continuity locally using one of the other existing local data centres.

While Dimension Data owns all the technology and intellectual property in its cloud suite, the company has taken space in a Sydney based data centre which will physically house the cloud focussed equipment.
