This is the first Australian data centre to receive that certificate.
"Macquarie Telecom's certification is of special significance in a time of growing self-certification in Australia. We are aware of a number of Australian vendors marketing themselves as being 'built to Tier III standards' or otherwise claiming to meet the Uptime Institute's requirements for certification," said Julian Kudritzki, vice president of the Uptime Institute.
"Customers need to be wary of self-certification by data centre vendors and demand compliance to Tier for each and every critical system. We congratulate Macquarie Telecom's Intellicentre 2 for meeting the stringent requirements for Tier III design certification," he added.
A key part of the Tier III specification is that it is not necessary to shut down equipment for replacement or maintenance.
