Cable&Wireless significantly expands hosting capacity

Cable&Wireless Worldwide is making a multi-million dollar investment in an expansion of its global data hosting capacity in a deal with specialist data centre operator, Infinity.

The UK-based integrated communications and data hosting services vendor will expand its data hosting capacity by 25 percent through its 15-year agreement with Infinity.

CWW chief executive, Gavin Darby, said the "multi-million pound investment reinforces CWW's commitment to hosting services and illustrates the board's willingness to support core capabilities,' and expands the company's existing Tier 3 data centres in Leeds and Swindon.

Under the deal with Infinity, the new 4.3MW Tier III certified facility will be based at a secure site in the south-east of England, and become available from late 2012, and Darby says the new facility ensures that the company can support the increasing demands from clients for secure, robust and reliable hosting and shared services solutions.

"Data hosting is one of our critical areas of focus for the near future and will be a vital part of our return to growth. This announcement highlights the details of the plans we outlined in November last year. I believe that we are shaping our business to better serve our customers and secure our position in this growing market."

Infinity CEO, Martin Lynch, said Infinity the contract win with CWW was 'important' and further reinforced the company's our strong position in the UK data centre market.

'Infinity's commitment to quality and attention to operational detail was essential to CWW in selecting a partner for this most crucial part of their business. We look forward to developing a strong long term partnership with CWW in delivering against their customers demanding needs," Lynch said.
