Bond Uni gets into cloud computing

Cloud computing is one of the hot areas of the IT industry as the 2012 business year moves into top gear, and Bond University in Queensland has just introduced a specialist course in cloud computing in response to the market demand for graduates with skills in new technologies.

With the new study course, students in IT at Bond have the option of studying infrastructure at both an undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Bond's Professor Paddy Krishnan, says the university is continually refining its offerings to ensure they are in line with the market demand. 'With computer power becoming inexpensive, technologies such as cloud computing infrastructure and virtualisation are becoming popular as consumers of IT services are no longer bound to the need to acquire and support specific hardware implementation but instead access these 'on-demand' from a networked service provider.

'When it comes to IT specialities, cloud computing is definitely the next big thing. This option of accessing unlimited data storage and software requirements 'on demand' from an online storage provider has the potential to significantly reduce business costs and improve customer service.
Graduates with specialist knowledge in this emerging field will be quickly snapped up by employers wanting to take full advantage of the untold benefits offered by cloud technologies."

Professor Krishnan says the university is one of the first (in Australia) to offer a specialisation in cloud computing. 'Studying at Bond will give you the knowledge of all the infrastructure options available and the ability to recommend solutions to businesses. Our state-of-the-art IT facilities enable students to have access to the very latest technologies and, thanks to our fast-tracked three-semesters-per-year schedule, you'll be out in the workforce with these specialised skills well ahead of the rest.'
