SoftLayer soars in third quarter

Cloud, dedicated and managed hosting provider SoftLayer notched up record third-quarter revenues. The company is planning an Australian data centre for early 2012.

SoftLayer reported $US85 million revenue for 3Q11. With more than 100,000 servers under management, the company has already established a physical presence in Europe (Amsterdam) and Asia Pacific (Singapore), and plans to launch an Australian data centre early next year.

"Our growth is fuelled by increased customer demand for our entire portfolio of hosting solutions," said George Karidis, chief strategy officer for SoftLayer. "Our approach resonates with customers because we offer an à la carte menu of service and options resulting in greater flexibility and control over IT resources while reducing operating costs. With our new data centres in Singapore and Amsterdam, we'll be able to drive even more international revenue and sales."

CEO Lance Crosby said "SoftLayer is headed on a pretty impressive trajectory but we're really just beginning to accelerate our efforts."

"The addition of David [Strohm, who was recently appointed as a director] to our leadership team benefits us immensely, especially as it relates to managing growth and rapidly expanding into international markets," he added.
