Samsung launches second gen cloud solution

Samsung has embarked on a strategy in the Australian market, in collaboration with Cisco, which it says is aimed at strengthening its foothold in the business segment with the introduction of solutions to enable businesses to implement virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) technology.

According to Samsung Electronics Australia director IT division, Emmanuele Silanesu the company has seen a distinct increase in the need for virtual desktop infrastructure among its business customers', and he says that with the increasing challenges of security, fuelled by the mobile workforce, driven by changing global business dynamics and total cost of ownership requirements, it is 'more important than ever that IT managers are provided a solution that can help them address these needs.'

Silanesu says that, in deploying Cisco's Universal Power Over Ethernet (UPoE) technology, Samsung is taking advantage of the access anytime, anywhere possibilities offered by cloud computing technology.

According to Silanesu, Samsung has an entire ecosystem of end point devices equipped for desktop virtualisation, and users can access their desktop and applications anywhere, anytime from smart phones, tablets and notebooks, offering flexibility, security, reliability and a consistent experience across all devices, enterprise wide.

Dedicated to delivering the next-generation workspace experience, Silanesu says that Samsung has collaborated with Cisco to deliver the market's 'first all in one Zero Client PCoIP LED monitor powered over Ethernet.'

'With the encrypted protocol, PCoIP, virtual desktops are delivered over the IP network from the highly secure and available data centre to end users.  The Samsung NC220P zero client monitor simplifies the end-user configuration, making it both more accessible and cheaper to manage while the centralised web based management consul of the NC Series offers remote management of the desktop fleet, increasing productivity without the hassles of managing individual PC's. In addition, the combination of Cisco's power management solutions and Samsung LED display technology offers an economical piece to the VDI solution to help reduce organisation's carbon footprint.'

Silanesu says that, further enhancing the Samsung solution, is the partnership with key virtualisation experts, Citrix and VMWare.  'The portfolio of Samsung second generation Cloud Displays offers support for a number of protocols including PCoIP, RDP and HDX, maintaining solutions for both Citrix Xen and VMware View, providing customers with an integrated and flexible work solution from the desktop through to mobile devices.'
