Internode has formed a partnership with unified communications technology company, Mitel and systems integrator, Tie Networks, under which Internode will host the virtualised version of the Mitel IP telephony platform with Tie Networks configuring and customising the platform for individual users.
In a separate move, Internode has also announced that it can port 100 number blocks of business telephone numbers from Telstra or Optus to its NodePhone VoIP service.
From today, Internode customers have access to Mitel's vMCD (Virtual Mitel Communications Director), a real-time hosted IP PABX application that manages unified communications, and which is controlled and configured via a Web-based management tool. It offers standard PABX functions such as hold, transfer, park, paging and hunt, plus enhanced features such as hot-desking, multi-party conferencing, voice to email and access to Mitel's range of IP phones.
Internode said that Mitel partners deploying Mitel software on its VMware infrastructure would be able to extend vMCD functionality with vMBG the Virtual Mitel Border Gateway that provides "an in-office experience for out-of-office users via Teleworker" and vMAS - Virtual Mitel Applications Suite, which incorporates Mitel UC Advanced, Mitel Audio & web conferencing and Mitel Nupoint messaging.
Internode has also been offering BroadSoft-based hosted IP telephony services since 2007.
Number porting is available now in major metropolitan areas. By the end of October, Internode says it will be available in all of South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT as well as densely populated and NBN areas of all other states.
Mitel released the Mitel Communications Director (MCD) software for VMware vSphere 4 in late 2009, billing it as the first real time voice applications designed for the VMware vSphere 4 platforms, along with VMware versions of other Mitel applications including Mitel Unified Communicator Advanced, Mitel Contact Centre Solutions, and Mitel Enterprise Manager. Telstra has been offering Mitel software under VMware since late 2010.
Think again. Most businesses only have PART of a DR plan - and this spells business disaster in the event of an IT disaster.
