OS X Lion ready for iCloud with 10.7.2 update

OS X Lion 10.7.2 provides iCloud compatibility, assorted bug fixes and improvements, and a slew of security fixes. A corresponding security update is available for Snow Leopard 10.6.8.

As anticipated, Apple has released OS X Lion 10.7.2 to provide support for its new iCloud service. Most of the supported features mirror those previously provided by MobileMe - syncing calendars, contacts, bookmarks, etc; and remote access (Back to My Mac) - but iCloud adds Find My Mac capability paralleling the existing Find My iPhone feature.

You're less likely to mislay a Mac, but in case of loss or theft Find My Mac may be able to display the location of the missing computer and remotely lock or wipe it.

But iCloud does lack some MobileMe features. iWeb users have been vocal about the loss of iWeb publishing, and there have also been complaints about alternatives to the MobileMe Gallery being less stylish. And despite performance issues, many users will miss iDisk's convenience as an online storage service.

Those services remain available to MombileMe users until June 30, 2012.

But 10.7.2 is more than just iCloud. It also provides a number of improvements and security fixes.

Aspects highlighted by Apple include improvements and bug fixes for Mission Control, full screen apps, Google contact syncing in Address Book, VoiceOver, screen zoom, Active Directory, and networking,

Apple also claims it has addressed "an issue that causes Keynote to become temporarily unresponsive" - if that's the one that people have been blaming on auto-save, we should hear sighs of relief echoing around the world.
