Hitachi Data Systems and Teradata have been listed as one of the 2011 World's Most Ethical Companies by the Ethisphere Institute. Several other players in the ICT industry also made the list.
Ethisphere - a think-tank dedicated to the creation, advancement and sharing of best practices in business ethics, corporate social responsibility, anti-corruption and sustainability - produces an annual list of what it regards as the world's most ethical companies.
The only IT hardware company on the 2011 list is Hitachi Data Systems. Ricoh and Xerox were listed under the 'consumer electronics' category.
"Hitachi Data Systems has always placed considerable emphasis on ethical behaviour, and being named to Ethisphere's 2011 World's Most Ethical Companies list is a testament to the corporate culture we have built around this value," said Jack Domme, CEO, Hitachi Data Systems. "Upholding the highest levels of ethical standards is not just a business practice at HDS; it is the cornerstone of our company culture and a process of continuous improvement. We are committed to exemplifying an unwavering dedication to the highest integrity and ethical standards and our employees at every level of our organisation display this on a daily basis."
Ethisphere Institute executive director Alex Brigham said "As companies strive to maintain a competitive advantage, good ethics translate into better business, and better business means better bottom lines. Hitachi Data Systems recognises the important role that principled practices play in brand reputation, which ultimately is the most valuable asset for a corporation."
Data warehousing and analytics provider Teradata appeared in the list's computer software category.
"Teradata is honoured to be recognised as one of the top companies in the world at implementing and promoting ethical business standards," said Todd Carver, the company's chief ethics and compliance officer. "This award recognises all Teradata associates for their dedication to acting with ethics and integrity at all times in everything connected with our business. We are proud of our associates for having earned this recognition and the reputation of being ethical and trustworthy."
Other sections of the ICT industry also featured on the list, and Australian companies made a strong showing in one particular category - see page 2.
