Space reclamation on NetApp storage systems can now be carried out automatically via Symantec's Thin Reclamation API.
The integration of NetApp's unified storage systems with Symantec's Thin Reclamation API helps joint customers automatically reclaim storage space and improve overall storage efficiency, NetApp officials claimed.
The Thin Reclamation API, announced last year by Symantec, enables automated space reclamation for thin provisioning storage arrays. It is supported by 3PAR, Compellent, EMC, Fujitsu, HP, Hitachi Data Systems and IBM, as well as NetApp.
"Symantec offers the industry's leading cross-platform thin optimisation solution, enabling organisations to benefit from the true cost and efficiency advantages of thin provisioning," said Don Angspatt, vice president of product management within Symantec's storage and availability management group, Symantec.
"The integration of Veritas Storage Foundation with NetApp's market-leading storage solutions enables IT organisations to proactively plan their storage environment, improve storage utilisation rates, and get the most value from their data centre investments," he added.
"NetApp storage gives customers storage efficiency capabilities that go beyond thin provisioning, deduplication on primary storage, and default RAID-DP," said Patrick Rogers, vice president of solutions and alliances at NetApp.
"By working with Symantec and integrating our storage with Veritas Storage Foundation, we continue to break new ground in what is possible with IT efficiency. The principle is to provide leading efficiency without any compromise on flexibility, simplicity, and performance," added Rodgers.
