HP introduces new SMB storage

The X1000 comes in three levels: the X1400, X1600, and X1800. The various models are differentiated by speed of the processor (2.0 to 2.4 GHz), amount of RAM (2 to 6 GB), and storage capacity (2 TB to 6 TB internal and up to 96 TB external).

There's also an X1800sb, based on the ProLiant BL460c G6 Server Blade for BladeSystem enclosures.

These units are intended for "small, medium-sized, or workgroup IT environments that need to quickly add or consolidate storage to a single unified storage system."

Moving up the product line, the X3000 series comes in X3400 and X3800 models.

The former has one 2.0GHz processor and 2 GB of RAM; the latter has two 2.4GHz processors and 12 GB of RAM. Both come with two 146GB internal drives but, as mentioned, are intended to attach to external storage.

They're for "enterprise or workgroup IT environments that need to add services (file, iSCSI, mgmt) to an array/SAN, or need to build affordable HA unified storage."

The X1000's start at US$3,400.
