Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Microsoft has confirmed the latest version of German software company, NCP engineering GmbH's Secure Entry Client (version 9.0) IPSec VPN client as being Vista compatible.
Microsoft lists all third-party providers of VPN clients whose products have been tested for Vista compatibility. To date the NCP product is the only one listed in the final version and listed as available now.
NCP says that, with version 9.0 the user interface has been visually adapted to the new Windows operating system without changing the relationship between the icons and the functional sequence of connection set up and authentication that has proven itself in practice.
According to NCP, the software offers IPSec encryption with AES or 3-DES, IPCOMP data compression, extended authentication (Xauth, EAP), support for digital certificates and hardware tokens, an integrated stateful inspection firewall with situation-dependent firewall rules, and "friendly net detection" for automatic detection of secure and non-secure networks. In addition, the Client has an intelligent automated WLAN mechanism that activates the appropriate profile for the currently present WLAN in background, for instance at a hotspot.
NCP says the product can be implemented in any virtual private network and terminate against any IPSec gateway (eg, concentrator, router, firewall). Specific products named are those from gateways: ARKOON, Astaro, Bintec, Check Point, Cisco, Concept04, Cosine, D-Link, F-Secure, Fortinet, FreeSwan, Genua, Intermate, Lancom, Linksys, NCP, Netgear, Netscreen, OpenBSD, OpenSwan, Panda, Pyramid, Smoothwall, SonicWall, Symantec, TelcoTech and WatchGuard.
The connection can be over any wired or wireless networks, public or private. VoIP is transmitted with priority and 'integrated QoS "ensures communication without delay, and without distortion."
In addition to Windows Vista, NCP Secure Entry Clients support the Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating systems. A 30-day trial version offering unrestricted use is available from NCP.
