'World's largest contact centre company' chooses open source IP PBX for its own contact centre

Asterisk, the open source IP PBX software, has scored a resounding endorsement from one of its resellers, Aspect Software - which claims to be the world's largest company solely focused on the contact centre - is being used for Aspect's new corporate headquarters, with 500 users.

It will also underpin Aspect's technical services contact centre were it will be integrated with Aspect's own contact centre solution, AspectEnsemblePro.

"SIP-basedVoIP and the adoption of open source applications is clearly the direction where the communications industry is headed," said Aspect CIO, Jamie Ryan. "In addition, we heard great feedback from Asterisk customers regarding the functionality of the solution and reliability of the product."

He added: "Because Asterisk offers the same robust features as closed-source IP PBXs, it helps support our long-term goal of creating a unified communications platform, providing the ability to add more sophisticated functionality as our business grows."

Code for Asterisk, originally written by Mark Spencer of Digium, has been contributed to from open source software engineers around the world.It currently boasting overone million users,support for a wide range of TDM protocols for the handling and transmission of voice over traditional telephony interfaces, and VoIP packet protocols such as IAX, SIP and H.323. It supports US and European standard signalling types used in business phone systems, allowing it to bridge between next-generation voice-data integrated networks and existing infrastructure.

It is available from Digium as a free download or as a commercial product, Asterisk Business Edition, the version being installed by Aspect.
