Nokia has continued its dizzying pace of innovation in mobile devices with a series of 'Music Phone' versions of its Nseries devices and the new N95 which has a five megapixel camera, inbuilt GPS and a mapping application that allow users to find routes and services in more than 100 countries.Nokia is positioning the devices squarely as ' multimedia computers', saying they blur the boundaries between the Internet world, mobility and the consumer electronics industry.
"The multimedia computer offers all the functionalities of a PC and many portable single purpose devices in a connected mobile device that is always with you and always connected," according to Nokia. "Because multimedia computers have a programmable operating system, people can download and install software applications. Unlike mobile phones, this means people can add features and applications to their multimedia computers without having to buy a new device."
According to Anssi Vanjoki, Nokia's executive vice president and general manager of multimedia, "the Nokia N95 is the evolution of what computers have now become; pocketable devices with the power to connect you to the information, services, content and other people you want when it suits your needs. This is the fastest growing segment in the mobile space and this year alone, we have already sold more than 10 million Nokia Nseries multimedia computers."
Nokia has also released the N75 designed for the Americas market with a "slim fold form factor supporting all of the Nokia Nseries multimedia experiences, including music, photography and access to Internet services."
