Oracle has released Oracle Application Development Framework Mobile, part of the company's Fusion Middleware offering.

The idea behind Application Development Framework (ADF) Mobile is that it simplifies the development and deployment of mobile enterprise apps that take advantage of HTML5 and Java to run on multiple mobile platforms, including iOS and Android.

Company officials claim this approach allows developers to extend enterprise applications to mobile devices with end-to-end security and encryption.

While the use of technologies such as Java, HTML5, JavaScript and CSS allow cross-platform development (in addition to being familiar to many developers), ADF Mobile also includes support for native device services (eg, camera, GPS, and contacts lists).

This cross-platform approach means apps can be developed and deployed to multiple device types in less time and without requiring parallel development teams or resorting to outsourced development teams.

That said, ADF Mobile has been endorsed by two well-known outsourcers.

"Oracle Fusion Middleware and Oracle ADF Mobile allow us to deliver mobile solutions rapidly, integrate numerous backend applications, and support mobile applications across iOS and Android platforms through one common framework," said Ravi Kumar S, vice president and global head of Infosys' Oracle practice.

"In turn, our clients can lower total cost of operation and can bring innovative products and services faster to market for their customers."

And Derek Steelberg, global managing director of Accenture's Oracle business, said "Accenture is excited to integrate Oracle ADF Mobile into our industry-leading project accelerator - the Accenture Foundation Platform for Oracle - to help meet the demands of clients who want to go mobile quickly and cost effectively.

"Our clients can use the Accenture Foundation Platform for Oracle to simplify and accelerate the extension of their Oracle applications to both the iOS and Android platforms, while addressing common challenges such as device management and security," he explained

"With Oracle ADF Mobile, developers can spend less time re-writing code and more time building the most advanced enterprise mobile applications,” said Chris Tonas, Oracle's vice president of application development tools.

"Oracle ADF Mobile is tightly integrated with the Oracle Fusion Middleware product portfolio, supports Oracle Fusion Applications, and can easily integrate non-Oracle-based applications.

"With a rich, visual and declarative programming model, Oracle ADF Mobile helps developers increase their productivity and deliver applications faster - you write applications once and deploy on multiple mobile platforms, including iOS and Android."
