Alcatel and Nokia have teamed up to extend the capabilities of Alcatel's OmniPCX IP PBX to Nokia's ESeries handhelds via the IntelliSync technology,
acquired by Nokia earlier this year.
Nokia will offer the IntelliSync Call Connect for Alcatel, a product designed to enable Nokia ESeries devices to emulate the functions and features of the OmniPCX's standard wired handset and part of the IntelliSync Mobile Suite from Nokia. On the Alcatel side, a feature of the OmniPCX known as Cellular Extension software will be used.
This, they say, will enable employees to manage just one business number and control where and when and on which device they receive their calls. Features of the office phone, such as call conferencing, call back, and dial by name will be available on an ESeries device when used in the enterprise environment.
Currently, IntelliSync Call Connect for Alcatel uses the cellular network to connect to a company's PABX infrastructure, but Nokia says it will be enhanced to support both cellular and WiFi networks with dual mode phones in the near future. The solution will be available during the fourth quarter of 2006 through Alcatel and Nokia resellers.
