Quest Software - now a Dell subsidiary - is famous for its database tools such as Toad for Oracle. The newly released Toad for Oracle 11.6 makes it easier for database administrators to work remotely.

This has been achieved by allowing the execution of Toad scripts from mobile devices via a web portal.

Toad for Oracle 11.6 also provides for setting synchronisation between multiple computers, sharing Toad scripts and settings with other users (what's a software update without a social dimension?), support for 64-bit versions of Oracle, and version control with integration with IBM Rational ClearCase.

The Pro, Xpert and Suites editions also allow the sharing of coding rule sets among development teams for greater consistency.

There's also a new Exadata edition of Toad DBA Suite for Oracle, incorporating Spotlight diagnostics, a DB admin module to optimise Exadata configuration, an SQL optimiser, and scalability and performance testing.

"This Toad for Oracle release is unique in that it gives users the ability to remotely access and execute Toad scripts from any web-enabled or mobile device," said Darin Bartik, vice president and general manager, database management solutions, Quest Software.

"Users also can store important scripts and settings online, and even synchronise across multiple computers to prevent data loss.

"Without a doubt, the new version of Toad for Oracle is the market's fastest and most flexible tool for development and administration."
