A Cisco UCS C240 M3 rack server with two Intel Xeon E5-2690 2.9 GHz processors running Oracle Database 11g Standard Edition One on Oracle Linux with the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel Release 2 has achieved 1.6 million transactions per minute (tpmC) on the TPC-C benchmark, with a price/performance score of $US0.47/tpmC.

"This outstanding benchmark result is another proof point that Oracle Database 11g delivers the best performance and price-performance for the high-volume two-socket server market," said Juan Loaiza, Oracle's senior vice president for systems technology.

"It also demonstrates that Oracle on Intel beats IBM DB2 on Power7 both in performance and price-performance," he added.

Mr Loaiza was referring to the way the above system delivered 34% more performance at 32% less cost per transaction than IBM DB2 on a two-processor IBM Power 780 Server Model 9179-MHB running IBM DB2 9.5, and also outperformed IBM DB2 running on a similar Flex System configuration with the same number and type of Intel processors and the same amount of memory.

Cisco was also happy with the result.
