The West Australian's weekend edition included a advertising liftout that allowed readers to purchase products via their smartphones.

The supplement was produced in cooperation with PayPal and Point and Pay. It used QR codes that can be 'scanned' by a smartphone to initiate the transaction.

Point and Pay offers retailers the ability to sell products via print, TV or outdoor advertising.

The company provides the QR technology, a shopping cart, payments via PayPal, and fulfilment and courier integration.

Damian Cook, managing director of Point and Pay said "The consumer path to purchase has clearly shifted to mobile, and we are committed to providing innovative solutions to help traditional media capture this new consumer.

"The mobile commerce revolution is here to stay and we want to provide media and retailers with opportunities to better connect with consumers no matter where they are."
