Financial software vendor Reckon has added payment summary lodgement to the range of facilities offered by its GovConnect portal.

GovConnect is the company's link between its software and services on one hand and the Federal Government's Standard Business Reporting (SBR) program.

The idea behind SBR is to make it easier for businesses to electronically provide required information instead of filing it on paper.

The initiative includes the development of a single taxonomy to be used by state and federal government agencies, and AUSkey, a single authentication system for dealing online with all participating agencies.

Reckon has been developing its GovConnect portal to link its software and services to SBR for some time - QuickBooks 2011/12, released over a year ago, featured BAS submission via GovConnect.

That functionality has now been extended to allow the lodgement of payment summaries from QuickBooks Hosted, the SaaS version of QuickBooks.

SBR payment summary lodgement is planned for next year's desktop version of QuickBooks.

"Our customers, both new and existing, are choosing online solutions, and as part of this they are recognising the flexibility and security our online environment provides," said Gavin Dixon, CEO of Reckon's business division.

"Recent tablet sales results and smart phone trends are key indicators that our online tools, including Reckon GovConnect, are becoming increasingly relevant to businesses and accounting professionals."
