VoIP provider MyNetFone has released a new softphone application with optional videoconferencing capability.

The MyNetFone Desktop softphone, created by CounterPath (developer of the widely-used X-Lite softphone) makes it easy to make or receive calls using a MyNetFone service from any location where Internet access is available.

The application comes in two main versions, lite and enhanced. The lite version costs $29.95, works with a single line, and is only available in conjunction with residential VoIP plans. Support is provided for one year.

The enhanced version ($74.95) handles two lines (business or residential) and also supports video calling. Three years support is included in the price.

Business customers can also rent the lite plus (two line) version for $4 per month with a minimum one year contract, or the enhanced plus version (up to four lines, video support, and soon instant messaging and presence) for $5 per month. Ongoing support is provided in both cases.

Company officials suggested MyNetFone Desktop is especially suited to telecommuters and mobile workers.
