Business IT - Technology

Panasonic Communications Co says it is developing a phone that will be able to make and receive Skype calls through Wi-Fi access points, and US Robotics has announced a cordless phone that works through a PC running Skype.
The Panasonic phone will be Skype certified and is expected be launched in the fourth quarter of 2006 in the USA. The US Robotics product, the USR9630, like the recently-launched Philips VoIP321  uses DECT wireless technology and, like the Philips product, the base station connects to both a traditional phone line and an available USB port on a PC running Skype enabling it to make and receive Skype calls and ordinary telephone calls. It also allows up to four cordless DECT handsets to be connected to the same telephone line. It will be available in September at retailers and e-tailers in North America and Europe for $US119.99.
