Used in conjunction with Citrix Receiver, CloudGateway 2 allows IT management to handle provisioning of company-owned and BYO devices (eg, according to roles defined in Active Directory), control access to apps (eg, disallowing some when the computer or mobile device is used in certain countries), remotely wipe applications and data, and deprovision ShareFile accounts.
One CloudGateway virtual appliance can support tens of thousands of users, said Sumit Dhawan, group vice president and general manager of Citrix's Receiver and Gateways group, adding that they are typically used in pairs to ensure high availability. "It's not a compute-intensive function," he explained.
CloudGateway and Receiver together remove conflicts between IT administrators and BYOD device owners, said Mr Dhawan. This is because they isolate corporate apps and data from the rest of the system, allowing the application of corporate policies without affecting the owner's apps and data.
The new support for native and HTML5 apps means the enterprise app store can present a native app where one exists for that type of device, or an HTML5 web app if there is no native app.
