Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
TransGaming has developed a 'portability engine', called Cider, that it claims can be incorporated into computer games built for Windows and enable then to run on Intel-based Macs "without arduous porting".
TransGaming claims to already have agreements in place with a number of the top tier video game publishers to bring their titles to the Intel Mac and says the first titles should be out the next few months. However, it claims that porting a game takes at most " a few days".
"With Cider, video game developers and publishers can deploy their Windows-based titles on Apple's new Intel Mac - quickly, easily...allowing them to release a Windows and Mac version of their titles simultaneously, eliminating the need for time consuming and expensive porting," the company claims.
Cider works, according to TransGaming, by mapping common multimedia Windows APIs such as Direct3D, DirectInput, DirectSound and many others to Mac equivalents. This "allows games to run with equivalent game play and performance but without the typical brute force porting effort typically required to bring games to Mac."
As a result, TransGaming says, developers can maintain only one code base yet retain its ability to target multiple platforms. Cider powered games use the same copy protection, lobbies, game matching and connectivity as the original.
TransGaming does not charge upfront for the software but takes a percentage of revenue from sales of the ported games.
TransGaming specialises in the development of software portability products that allow game developers and publishers to develop games for one system and deploy them across multiple platforms. Platforms supported range from Linux, Mac to Xbox, PlayStation 2, and next generation systems.
Titles ported using its portability technologies include TRON 2.0, James Bond 007, Nightfire, ,The Sims, Law & Order, Indiana Jones and The Emperor's Tomb.
