Intel aims for 1 billion phones with flash memory

Business IT - Technology

Intel has moved into the flash memory market for mobile phones with the intention of cutting the price of mobiles with cheaper flash chips.

With an estimated one billion mobiles worldwide, the market is simply too big to ignore for the chip giant. Memory packages of up to 1 GB for lower-end phones will be affordable according to Intel because of its move to the lower cost, higher yield 65nm chip making process.

As a result of superior yields from 65nm, Intel believes it can produce chips cheaply enough to bring the cost of the mobile phones market down.
