Keynote update addresses Lion slowdown problem

Business IT - Technology

Apple has updated the Keynote presentation software, in part to overcome severe slowdowns encountered under Lion.

While Apple's Keynote presentation software is very highly regarded, users who upgraded to Lion were plagued with severe slowdowns when working on large presentations such as those containing video clips of any significant duration.

Some users hypothesised that the problem was related to Lion's Versions feature, which automatically saves documents as they are edited.

Apple has now updated Keynote to version 5.1.1. As usual, information about the changes is scant, with the release notes merely stating "This update addresses issues that occur when working with large Keynote presentations on OS X Lion. It also includes improvements in stability and accessibility for Keynote."

Keynote can be updated in three different ways.

If the program was purchased fro the Mac App Store, the new version should be downloaded via the Store's Updates tab.

Most other users will obtain version 5.1.1 via Software Update. If the updater is to be applied to multiple computers, it makes sense to download it once from the Support Downloads page.
