Quest updates NetVault duo

Business IT - Technology

Updates to Quest Software's NetVault backup tools promise better performance, scalability and compatibility.

NetVault Backup 8.6 restores data 50% faster on average (according to company tests) and allows for a virtually limitless number of files in one backup job.

Quest officials claim it is the first backup software that supports block-level incremental backups to BlueArc's high-performance NAS systems. The new release also adds support for the latest versions of operating systems, applications and storage devices.

NetVault SmartDisk 1.5 now has the ability to deduplicate backups from NAS devices using basic NDMP backups or NetApp's SnapMirror-to-Tape function.

"Given the current landscape in which admins are constantly being asked to do more with less, the ability to implement backup and recovery solutions that lower costs and reduce complexity is of the utmost importance," said Walter Angerer, senior vice president and general manager, data protection, Quest Software. "NetVault Backup lets users leverage their existing storage investments while delivering the speed, scalability, and ease of use they need to simplify cross-platform data protection and minimise business risk in the process."
