Kerio Workspace 1.1 faces up against SharePoint

Business IT - Technology

An update to the Kerio Workspace collaboration software includes support for smartphones including the iPhone as well as Android and BlackBerry handsets.

Kerio Workspace is that company's collaboration product. According to James Gudeli, vice president of business development, Kerio tried various products including SharePoint and wikis to meet its own needs before deciding to create an alternative.

"This product grew out of the internal needs of our global management team," he told iTWire. Kerio has offices in eight cities in the US, Europe and Australia.

The product allows files and content to be organised and shared with access control and change tracking, and supports discussions. It includes the concept of a 'news feed' so users are alerted to changes in areas of interest.

New features in version 1.1 include a smartphone interface, drag and drop file uploading, duplication of pages and spaces, additional administration tools and options, and availability on a wider range of platforms.

The smartphone interface is available on iPhone, BlackBerry and Android.  Created using the Sencha framework, it displays Workspace pages, allows full text searches, and provides a news feed display.
