HP has announced new storage hardware and software, including provision of non-disruptive volume migration between arrays.
HP's Peer Motion federated storage software for the company's LeftHand and 3PAR systems provides workload balancing, thin provisioning, and the non-disruptive transfer of data in preparation for the retirement of an array.
The software is said to enable 'do-it-yourself' data migration with a reduced need for professional services, and it also takes advantage of technology built into 3PAR hardware to convert conventional volumes into thin volumes on a 3PAR system.
The mew HP P10000 3PAR storage systems are designed for virtual and cloud environments. The company claims that it can reduce acquisition and operational costs by up to 50%, while increasing administrative efficiency by as much as tenfold.
The P10000 features storage hypervisor-like technology providing secure multitenancy. It can be fitted with up to 48 drive chassis, each holding up to 40 drives.
A range of drive types are offered: 100 and 200GB SSD, 300 and 600GB 15K Fibre Channel, and 2TB SATA. The maximum total capacity is 800TB for the V400 model, and 1.6PB for the V800.
