The latest batch of WD external drives aimed at the Mac market come in 1TB, 2T2 and 3TB versions. THe WD My Book Studio features FireWire 800/400 and USB 2.0 interfaces.
WD's new My Book Studio drives have a brushed aluminium case to match recent-model Macs. They are preformatted as HFS+ and so are ready to go with Time Machine (most external drives require formatting before they can be used with Apple's backup software, and in the case of NTFS-formatted drives before Mac OS X can write to them at all, unless third-party software is installed).

Other Mac-friendly features include a FireWire 800/400 interface as well as the more common USB 2.0, and a fanless design to keep noise levels down. In addition, the MyBook Studio provides backup software, password protection, and drive encryption.
"WD has updated the design of its My Book Studio drive while providing natural cooling features delivered by the new aluminium enclosure," said Jim Welsh, executive vice president and general manager of WD's branded products and consumer electronics groups. "The drive will maintain all the features that are important to the creative community, including high speed FireWire 800 and adding large capacities up to 3 TB."
The My Book Studio costs $179.99 for 1TB, $229.99 for 2TB, or $299.99 for 3TB.
