Lexmark intends its Perceptive Software subsidiary will make a splash in Australia with ECM software that integrates with the company's printers and multifunction devices as well as enterprise software.
You probably haven't heard of enterprise content management (ECM) vendor Perceptive Software, but the company is planning to change that situation.
Perceptive was acquired by Lexmark in May 2010, and the new owner believes its international presence can be used to expand the brand globally. Kevin Goffinet vice president of business development for imaging solutions and services at Lexmark International told iTWire that while 95% of Perceptive's pre-acquisition business was in North America, more than 50% of the market opportunity for ECM products is outside that region.
The global market for ECM is worth $4 billion, said Anthony Giagnacovo, Perceptive's international general manager, 12% of which comes from Asia Pacific. Australia is a significant national market.
ECM was a "natural adjacency" to Lexmark's printer and multifunction device (MFD) business, Mr Goffinet said, and presents a fast-growing market opportunity.
Many of Lexmark's printers and MFDs (such as the T6 and X6 series) include the capability to run applications on the device, providing a convenient point for integrating with ECM. For example, a paper document can be scanned and fed into other applications. Perceptive's ImageNow software provides "exceptional OCR capability," said Mr Giagnacovo, and it also supports electronic forms.
It has uses for generating output as well as input - see page 2.
