ZTE claims first HSPA+ modem, six months after Telstra's service launch!

Business IT - Technology

Chinese telecoms vendor ZTE has just announced introduction of "the world's fastest 3G USB modem in Greece," but it performs no better than the Telstra Ultimate modem from Sierra Wireless that has been on sale in Australia for the past six months.

ZTE boasts that "The MF680 is a super high-performance modem that brings the speed of third generation (3G) data communications closer to the requirements of 4G networks, with download and upload speeds of up to 42Mbps and 5.76Mbps respectively'¦This is the first time this new dual carrier HSPA+ mobile broadband device has been launched anywhere in the world, and it pushes WCDMA systems another step closer to the requirements of so-called 4G technologies."

Sorry ZTE but check out the specs of the Sierra Wireless  AirCard 312U, AKA the Telstra Ultimate or BigPond Ultimate with which Telstra launched its 42Mbps HSPA+ service last August. It is a dual carrier 42/5.76Mbps device, so you're just a tad late to claim first place I'm afraid.
