Bill Gates coming to Bondi - virtually

The second day of is year's annual TED conference, being held in Long Beach on 3 March and 'curated' by Bill Gates, will be beamed live to an audience in Sydney's Bondi Pavilion.

The TED2011 Conference, "The Rediscovery of Wonder," runs from 28 February to 4 March 201. Gates is guest curator for Day 2 of the program, with the speaker line-up including: Morgan Spurlock (Supersize Me), Julie Taymor (The Tempest, The Lion King), Bill Ford (Ford Motor Co), Indra Nooyi (CEO PepsiCo), Antony (Antony & the Johnsons). The free event is being organised by TEDxSydney in collaboration with the Bondi Pavilion and the Tamarama Rock Surfers Theatre Company, which will take up residence in the newly refurbished theatre later in March.

The live web stream will commence at 3:30am on Thursday 3 March and tickets are being allocated on a first come first served basis. Register online at http://TEDxSydney.com. it is being held to promote TEDxSydney on Saturday 28 May 2011, which will feature Australian speakers and performers at CarriageWorks in Eveleigh, Sydney.

TED Licensee Remo Giuffre said: "This simulcast initiative sets the stage for our own event, TEDxSydney in May which will continue in its mission to establish a platform for local thinkers, doers and storytellers. With speakers from last year's TEDxSydney already featured on the global website, there are some terrific links being established between Australia and TED in the United States."
