Google (along with Facebook) might be the company that struggles with issues around privacy, but that hasn't stopped the superlative search company from being one of the most desirable places to work, with over 75,000 people sending their CVs into Google last week - setting a new company record!
Last night, the Australian arm of
Google held a special media party, simply as a way to introduce some new corporate communications employees and introduce them to some of Australia's technology journalists.
During the brief and informal chat, Google Australia's Chief Engineer, Alan Noble, not only spoke of the amazing work that had been done, and continues being done to Google Maps, but wanted to personally counter suggestions in the media that Google wasn't hiring or that things were slowing down at the company.
Instead, Google was working on all kinds of projects, most of which he couldn't talk about yet, with plenty of people being hired to make it all into reality.
Now comes the confirmation news via
a Bloomberg report that Google is receiving a huge volume of resumes and CVs, with over 75,000 having arrived last week, breaking the previous company record.
The fact that Google is simultaneously undergoing a 'hiring spree', as Bloomberg puts it, and that mountainous pile of 75,000 CVs could be even higher next week, thanks also in part to publicity all of the media stories on this topic are already giving to the situation.
Google already has 24,400 employees, with more than 6000 expected to be added in 2011, but has slipped to the fourth best place to work, according to Fortune Magazine.
