No GST at eStore.com.au this weekend

Online hardware and software retailer eStore is offering customers a GST 'holiday' this weekend.

There's been a lot of kerfuffle about the tax savings when buying goods from overseas online suppliers, but according to Lorenzo Coppa, CEO of eStore.com.au, the real issue is that consumers are realising that the best deals are often to be found online.

"Trading for nearly 20 years, we have continued to invest in our processes, improve our service, streamline our operations and kept our costs low whilst responding to the needs of our customers," said Mr Coppa. eStore.com.au is perhaps still better known to some by its previous name, City Software.

"It's a tough market, but retailers have to adapt to survive. We've decided to offer Australians the opportunity to get a better deal on technology products this weekend, by offering a discount to the equivalent of the GST on every product sold," he added.

The discount can be claimed on January 15 and 16 by entering the coupon code GSTFREE at the checkout.

The move can be seen as an attempt to get more people to give the company a try.

Mr Coppa noted that while online stores have lower costs and can pass on these savings in their prices, buying locally has advantages in terms of compliance with Australian standards, warranties being honoured, and responsibility for goods in transit.
