Business IT - Technology

A new, compact range of 1.8in SSDs provides high performance for a wide range of applications, according to its manufacturer.

Foreway claims its new 1.8 micro SATA SSD is the world's fastest in the form factor.

Claimed speeds are read/write at up to 280MBps, and 30,000 IOPS for 4kB reads and 15,000 for writes. The family is available in capacities up to 400GB.

Two versions are available: the 5mm thick version is rated for commercial operating temperatures, while the housing-free 3.3mm version is designed for commercial and industrial temperatures.

According to the company, the drives are suited to a wide variety of applications, ranging from rugged laptops and tablet PCs through handheld and vehicle mounted devices to telco and banking equipment as well as high-performance laptops and enterprise servers.

"The length of our new 1.8" SATA SSD is actually 7mm less than an American Express credit card," said Jason Hoover, Foremay's vice president, marketing.

"By offering both commercial and industrial operating temperatures, the 1.8" SATA SSD empowers design engineers with great flexibility and easy use for designing the next generation of slim and compact size computers for commercial, enterprise and industrial applications," he added.
