The developer of MoneyWorks has released a free utility to import data from MYOB or AccountEdge.
Switching from one SME accounting program to another can involve a major data entry effort, and that can be a significant obstacle in making such a change.
Consequently, New Zealand-based Cogito Software has released a
free utility to extract data from MYOB or AccountEdge and import it to the company's MoneyWorks application.
According to company officials, the utility was developed in response to MYOB users that wanted to switch to MoneyWorks.
According to the company's web site, all users need to do is "Simply run the converter, choose your MYOB file, set a couple of parameters, and a new MoneyWorks data file will be created with most of your vital accounting information in it (at least that is the theory)."
Cogito warns that "there can be so many odd things in an MYOB data file that MoneyWorks just will not let happen, and this may thwart you [in performing the conversion]", but it should work on any version of MYOB or AccountEdge from 2004 onwards: "we have tried it with Canadian, US, Australian and New Zealand [versions]."
MoneyWorks runs on Mac OS or Windows, including mixed networks.
