Dimension Data has announced four new hosted IT services offering messaging, backup, disaster recovery and storage, saying more will be added later.
According to Keith Murray, Dimension Data's director - managed services, the new hosted services have been developed largely in response to growing client demand for cloud computing services.
"Organisations both large and small are increasingly looking to outsource their IT infrastructure - in part or in its entirety - to third party services providers. Supplementing our traditional managed services capabilities, Dimension Data is now able to provide both the infrastructure and its support to our clients as a service over the Internet or 'in the cloud'."
The new hosted services are:
- Hosted Exchange - provides secure, business-class email with enterprise collaboration accessible by multiple channels and devices;
- Hosted Backup and Restore - a service focused on storing and restoring data based on daily, weekly and monthly backups;
- Hosted Disaster Recovery - a service to ensure that the organisation's system environment and associated data can be made available if a disaster occurs, to ensure the business and its users can continue operating.
- Hosted Cloud Storage - equivalent to a shared drive located over the Internet with the added benefits of security, access via multiple means (smartphones, desktop or applications), synchronisation and expandability.
Dimension Data began developing its hosted services capabilities with its investment in Sydney-based IT services firm BlueFire in December 2008. It recently announced
the operational merger of BlueFire with Netforce, another Sydney-based IT solutions provider, via Dimension Data taking a majority shareholding in Netforce.
