Office 2010 ready to roll

Microsoft Office 2010 - including SharePoint, Visio and Project - have been released to manufacturing.


Microsoft Office 2010 has been in public beta since last November, but the completed suite isn't far away now.

Office 2010, SharePoint 2010, Visio 2010 and Project 2010 were all released to manufacturing over the weekend.

The packages are scheduled for release to business customers on May 12 (US time - the Australian launch event will take place on the morning of May 13), with retail copies to ship in June.

Given that the 'business' release is of downloadable software, you may wonder why there's a gap of three weeks between the software being finalised (at least in the version 14.0 sense) and its release.

The most likely reason is the desire to obtain maximum publicity for - and therefore awareness of - the Office 2010 family's arrival by holding physical events around the world.
