A number of Australian employees of Hewlett-Packard are facing the loss of their jobs as the global computer giant looks to slash its worldwide workforce by up to 30,000.
Optus is offering the HP Mini 5102 Netbook for $0 in a bundle with what it says is a series of specially developed business class mobile broadband plans aimed at SMEs.
The lower usage plan will offer up to 2GB of data per month for $59.99, the medium plan 5GB for $79.99 and the high usage plan 8GB for $99.99, all on 24 month contracts. Also included is 24 month courier pickup and return warranty on the netbook.
The medium and high usage plans will also include an optional external DVD drive with the notebook; lower usage subscribers will be able to purchase the DVD drive when they sign on for $168.
The HP Mini 5102 features an embedded dual band (1900/2100MHz) sim and ships with HP Professional tools: QuickLook3 and QuickWeb that allow access to Microsoft Outlook information or a web browser when the netbook is off, according to Optus. It runs Windows Home Premium OS.
The unit has a 10.1 inch HD LED display, 2GB of memory, 160GB hard drive, 2MP webcam and a 95 percent full size, spill-resistant keyboard. It weighs 1.27kg, uses the new Intel Atom N450 1.66GHz processor and has a claimed battery life of up to ten hours.
