Adobe's long awaited Creative Suite 5 has arrived, with major new features in each component.
Creative Suite 5 is "a groundbreaking release" for creative workers and their managers, according to Mala Sharma, vice president of marketing and strategic development in Adobe's Creative Suite business unit.
There are more than 250 new features relevant to the 'create' and 'assemble' stages of the creative workflow, she said.
For example, Flash Catalyst, a new part of the suite, allows interactivity to be added to layouts created in Illustrator or Photoshop, providing new possibilities for leveraging existing print-based talent rather than relying on more-expensive web/interactive design workers.
And Flash itself has been updated to ensure consistent playback on any Flash 10.1 device, whether it is a phone, TV or PC.
Changes to the evergreen Photoshop include Puppet Warp (highly accurate pixel warping that allows objects to be reshaped with minimal distortion), content-aware fill (smart background replacement when a portion of the image is deleted), the ability to refine edges, and the relatively fast and simple creation of high dynamic range (HDR) images.
