Navteq Transport warns drivers of restrictions that can hamper the movement of tricks and other large vehicles.
Digital map and navigation provider Navteq has released its Transport product for Australia, tailored to the requirements of truck drivers.
"Our interviews revealed that drivers plan their routes so that it takes them to their destination in the quickest manner," stated Aaron Dannenbring, vice president, Asia Pacific Map and Content Products, Navteq.
"By utilising the attributes in Navteq Transport, applications can provide routes that take into account restrictions that impede truck movement, thereby slowing their destination arrival time. Creating routes that avoid these obstacles can lead to greater driver satisfaction saving them both time and money," he added.
These attributes include physical and legal restrictions including bridge heights and weight, traffic signs, truck speed limits, hazardous material and preferred truck routes.
All major Australian highways are covered, plus arterial and secondary roads in the Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra, Perth, and Adelaide metro areas.
Navteq Transport includes other features that are increasingly found in GPS products for a more general motoring audience, including points of interest, 3D representations of landmarks, and renderings of complex intersections.
