Polycom brings Macs into its videoconferencing ecosystem

Polycom has introduced a version of its desktop video collaboration application for Mac OS X, claiming it provides videoconferencing with "seamless interoperability" with its existing Windows application and with the estimated two million standards-based telepresence and videoconferencing systems in use today.

The application, Polycom CMA Desktop, works with the Polycom Converged Management Application (CMA); server based software for video network management designed to simplify the provisioning, management and ease of use of personal, room and telepresence videoconferencing deployments across organisations.

Polycom CMA centrally controls user permissions through active directory credentials, manages endpoint software, monitors and reports on usage for detailed analysis of return on investment.

Polycom claims that, integrating the desktop video application within the management platform "gives IT administrators unprecedented provisioning, management and reporting capabilities for successfully deploying desktop video across organisations."

The Polycom CMA Desktop for Mac OS X is planned for global availability in April 2010, Current Polycom CMA customers with a service contract will be able to download and use the application for no additional fee.
